Dear friends
If you are very good with computers, then definitely you may concern about your files...
because, as no PC is virus immune (how much you try) as no man is immune to disease (you see the coincidence that virus was created by man &the mostof the diseases were also created by man's carelessness), so you will think how to protect your files... Here are the things you will do most probably... 1. you write your data on to optical disk 2. Store them on external Hard disk, pen drives, etc 3. Keeping an extra copy in other disk and endless silly attempts.... What ever and how ever you do no media is 100% secure under our maintenance.. did you get what i said, under our maintenance. So what you do???????? I prefer few good and better methods to protect your data!
1. Try & learn to work with Unix like environment. That is, habituate to work with operating systems other than windows, such as UBUNTU, FEDORA,MINT OS, OPEN SUSE, CENT OS, SCIENTIFIC LINUX, etc... there are lots of flavors of Linux operating systems. among them it is easy for every one to work with UBUNTU & FEDORA. Most of the virus definitions were written for WINDOWS as target system. so the UNIX like operating systems are very much immune to virus, which are only understood by window OS. There are lots of tutorials and applications available for these operating systems.
2.Store your data on online. how ever it requires good internet speed. Simple online storage that every one use, but not completely.
GOOGLE: Provides 15GB space for every user including all Google products
You can upload lots of files not greater than 25MB each to your g mail, all added up to 15GB By using Google drive you can upload files & folders even GB size All Google products work with single user id & password.
YAHOO: Provides 1TB space for every user You can upload lots of files not greater than 25MB each to your Yahoo mail, all added up to 1TB Yahoo work with Dropbox, so that you can upload files larger than 150MB to drop box like Google Drive with Yahoo ID
Micro Soft's HOT mail: Provides 7GB space for every user You can upload lots of files not greater than 25MB each to your Hot mail, all added up to 7GB Like Google drive, Micro Soft had "One Drive" for large file uploads not greater than 7GB
Degoo: Provides 100GB (Terms & conditions apply)
How ever there are free online file storage sites are available like Mega uploads etc. In these sites we can't have full control on our data. site admin may delete the data if we don't follow their policies. But in all mail services our data is up to my knowledge 99.9999% secure, no worries about loosing data, and more over it is under our control. we can share it delete it & modify it.
If you don't have the fast internet facility then migrate to Unix environment as early as possible. In the Unix environment there is lots of apps available which are similar to windows environment apps & a provision to run windows applications also, so you need not to worry.
More about Unix will be Posted, so regularly visit this blog.
