What if we forgot windows Log-In password of Administrator account (for user accounts, we can log-in to the computer using administrator account and we can reset the user password) ???

Formatting the computer is only solution ???
How ever there is no problem with formatting, I mean we do not loose any data which is stored in Hard disk (even in C drive), but we loose our installed applications.

If you are not insisted to format the computer and to loose the applications and their settings,
then follow the either methods given below.

The methods given below are reliable and simple. With these methods you do not loose any thing.

Method 1:
  • Place any windows CD/DVD in CD tray, then restart your system and boot from the CD/DVD.  (Preferably Windows Vista / Windows7 / Windows Repair Disk)
  • After loading files, on pop up windows select your language, time and input method then click
     next

  • Now click on Repair your system
  repair your system

  • now select the partition then click next
  •  Click on the command prompt option
  command prompt

  • On the command window you are in X directory, you have to find the disk C, which might be labeled with any letter
  reset password

  • To locate the C partition (on which OS has been installed), type
                       c:

  •  then press enter. Then type
                     dir

  • Then press enter, it will list all the files in that partition. If you find program files, windows, user etc folders in that disk then it is disk C, otherwise change the drive letters as D,E,F…. and repeat the above steps until you find the above said folders.
  • After finding the C disk go to the system32 folder by typing
                   cd f:\windows\systen32
press enter (in this case my C disk labeled as letter F)

  • Now keep a copy of cmd.exe & sethc.exe files in other drive by typing
                   copy cmd.exe d:\

  • press enter. (I’m using disk D to save copies, you can use any drive)
                  copy sethc.exe d:\

  • press enter
                  copy cmd.exe f:\windows\system32\sethc.exe

  •  press enter it will ask your permission to over write cmd on sethc. It's OK just permit it by typing
                   y

  •  press enter
  • now exit from the command prompt by typing
                  exit

  •  click on the restart button to restart your computer
  • after restarting, now you are at the log-in window
  login

  • Now press left shift key 5 times then a command window will popup . Type the below command then press enter
                    net user

  • now you will see the list of users on your computer. Select the user for which you forgot the password then type the below command then press enter
                    net user kishore newpassword

  • in my case my user name is kishore & newpassword is my new password for the user kishore.(What ever may be the old password).
  • Now type
                    exit
to exit from command window .
